Shinkenger Act 24

Some joke about Seto Kaiba's coat.

Act 24 | Script

I only made that last post because I wanted to post that picture, in all honesty. I got an order in for the Gokai SHFs anyway.

Anyways, have Act 24. I’ll have to say, there was a major mistranslation I spotted in this episode, when Juuzo is explaining about himself and Uramasa to Takeru. TV-N had the line as something about “paying with mushrooms you find”, trying to pass it off as some proverb. Except, I wasn’t able to find any Japanese proverbs about mushrooms online. I was able to get a much better translation for the line about embers and the wind, more or less analogous to “dust in the wind”. Don’t say I don’t try to do more than clean out honorifics now. (Only I’ll say that)

TL Notes as well, because it’s not Shinkenger without them.

Daikai Shinken-Oh’s attack is “Niten Ichiryuu Midare Giri”. Niten Ichiryuu is some type of sword technique, using two swords, with it literally meaning “two heavens as one”. Wasn’t sure how to go with this, since it’d be a bit odd to translate a technique, but I decided that it’s not a very common thing to know, unless you’re really into old-school kendo stuff or something. So, for simplicity’s sake, I translated it as “Dual Sword Chaotic Slash”. Keeps the intention in, I hope.

Also, on “Squid Tenkuu Buster” and its attack, the attack is “Origami Daikai Hou” in Japanese, and I translated it as “Grand Origami Blast”. It’s probably more silly Japanese wordplay with the Daikai in the attack and in the name for the giant robo. That’s fine and dandy, but I’m not going to look into making it pun off like that in English.

With all that, enjoy the second half of Act 23 and the first appearance of the Shinkenger’s Super upgrade. It’s not as involved with a design change, unlike other series like Dekaranger or Magiranger, but it’s a pretty awesome coat.

What’s taking you so long?!

I haven’t done much the last few days. If you want to know why, here’s a small hint what I was doing instead.

SHFiguarts are a hell of a drug.

Damn you, AmiAmi, for freezing up on me so much last night.

Shinkenger Act 23

Takeru is even surprised how long it took me to do and upload this episode.

Act 23 | Script

Another 2-parter episode, and here’s the first half. Quick notes for the episode:

  • Genta refers to Juuzo as “Michelin” as a call back from when the two had first met. I thought I made a note about this when I uploaded that episode, but now I realize I didn’t. If you don’t know, Michelin Guides is a restaurant rating book with a three star system. Some of you may have known about it already, but I sure didn’t. (Though I did know about Zagats guides) Sorry I didn’t put that note in before, I could have sworn I did.
  • Mako makes a reference to the Obon/Bon Festival. It’s a summer thing in Japan, and she explains that during then, the festival happens because of more activity in the Sanzu River allowing the departed souls to come visit again. Best analogous festival I can think of that Americans would know of is Mexico’s Día de los Muertos.

Shinkenger Act 22

Daaaaayum!

Act 22 | Script

I like Kotoha’s dress in this episode. Genta has a good eye for fashion.

Small TL Note. With Daikai-Oh’s North face revealed, the final wordplay is revealed. “Kita Kita Kita!” is some kind of slang that means “I did it!” or “Here it comes” And “kita” is also Japanese for “north”, so there you go.

Kamen Rider Decade Episode 25

This scene can now be recreated with SH Figuarts and some lighter fluid.

DCD 25 | Script

And so ends Decade’s foray into the world of Super Sentai. And that will end my dabbling into the world of Kamen Rider, for now. Slight TL note about this episode if you never watched Decade. At the end of the episode, Tsukasa calls Natsumi “Natsumikan”. It literally means “summer tangerine”, so I suppose it’s a nickname for her. I didn’t bother changing it because, eh. It’s a bit tough to do some kind of analogous translation for it, and it would ruin the little joke of her making the tangerine shaped cookies at the end of the episode. Also, this is intended to be an episode at the end of the series proper, so a TL note for it would have been made in a much, much earlier episode. (That isn’t a very good excuse, is it?)

Just take your stupid scrubs and let me get some sleep.
